SCRIPT - SCREENPLAY

If you have written a film script, and if you are in the USA, you shouldregister your script with the Writer's Guildof America., and you will need a good Literary Agent who knows themarket and will have the contacts
Agents usually take their fees only oncethe script is sold, usually 10%-15% of the purchase price. . The WGA has a listof "approved" agents who will look at new (and unsolicited) scripts. The Writer's Guild of America registration office receives approximately inexcess of 16,000 screenplays each year.

In regard to obtaining the rights to adapt a book into a screenplay, one hasto get in contact with the holder of the screen rights and one must request toget an OPTION on the rights.
An option gives you the sole rights to adapt and seek to produce a motionpicture based on a previously published work, for a limited amount of time, usually 1 year.

At the time an option is granted, an agreement will be entered into betweenthe various parties regarding the ultimate purchase of the screen and associatedrights once certain conditions have been met . The option will usually costaround 10% of the total purchase price for the rights, and should include thefirst right to renewal for an additional term
